Early Career

After receiving an undergraduate degree in mathematics, Mr. Seltzer did graduate work at Case Western Reserve University. At Case Western, he was a Teaching Assistant, and was awarded an N.D.E.A. Fellowship. In 1967, Mr. Seltzer joined Reliance Electric Company, Euclid, Ohio as an Operations Analyst. In 1970, he joined the Glidden-Durkee Division of SCM as an Operation Research Analyst. One year later, he was promoted to Manager of Information Processing, and in 1976, he assumed that responsibility for the entire SCM Corporation.


In 1977, Mr. Seltzer joined the H.E.B. Corporation, a grocery chain, located in San Antonio, Texas as Director of IT and then was promoted to Vice President. He spent 10 years at H.E.B. directing System decisions in all areas of the Corporation. H.E.B. at that time was regarded as the most advanced retailer in America in IT.


Turnarounds

In 1987, Mr. Seltzer joined Revco Drug Stores as Senior Vice-President of Distribution and Systems. He significantly lowered distribution costs and conceptualized and implemented the pharmacy system that became a major factor in the turnaround. He also conceptualized and implemented the first customer pharmacy information pamphlet in the pharmacy industry.


Acceleration

In 1992, after Revco emerged from bankruptcy, Mr. Seltzer joined Office Depot as Executive Vice President of Distribution and Systems. He rebuilt the systems at Office Depot, which permitted the system to keep up with very rapid growth. In 1996, he oversaw the award winning Internet Site that was deployed into 17 countries and 16 languages. Office Depot became the third largest retail Internet Company in the world behind Amazon and Dell. Mr. Seltzer retired from Office Depot in 2001.

Mr. Seltzer has won most major awards in Retail Systems, published several papers and has been a speaker at many conferences.
